The historic “hill village” of Bonnieux that’s old as Roman times and as wealthy as all the lords belonged to the Popes. Behind the magnificent vineyards and pine-covered hills, 19th century ocre quarries that sparked the economy for Gargas, still stand in operation to this day. Ocre is a natural earth mineral that ranges from yellow to brown pigments. Although, the town itself is not covered with this yellow to brown hue, it’s greatest discovery were traces of human habitation dating back to 6,000 – 2,000 BC.

Upon arriving Mane, two silhouettes, the Citadel built in the 12th century and the bell tower stand out. These landmarks are reminders of centuries-old history since 55 AD. As with the passage of eras, comes the transformation of landscapes. The beautiful village cultivated with valleys and hills is painted with lush greenery and sprinkled with colorful flowers in the spring that gives Mane the vigor it once had in its renaissance. Autumn leaves frames its now rustic charm upon the Roman ruins.
